Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This is the privacy notice of YogaEvy. In this document, “we”, “our”, or “us” refer to YogaEvy, Evy Demetriou trading as a yoga teacher based in New Barnet, Herts.
We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. Your right to privacy is important to us, and this notice sets out how we look after your personal data and tells you about your privacy rights.
1. Introduction
This notice tells you about our policy regarding all information that we record about you. It sets out the conditions under which we process any information that we collect from you, or that you provide to us, whether that information can identify you personally (“personal information”) or not. In this notice, “process” means collect, store, transfer, use or otherwise act on information.
We take the protection of your privacy and confidentiality seriously. We understand that everyone who contacts us or uses our website is entitled to know that their personal data will not be used for any purpose they haven’t agreed to, and will not accidentally fall into the hands of a third party.
We undertake to preserve the confidentiality of all information you provide to us.
Our policy complies with UK data protection law, being the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, together with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (“PECR”) which govern cookies and similar technologies. The law requires us to tell you about your rights and our obligations to you regarding the processing and control of your personal data, and this notice is intended to do that. You can also find general information about your rights at ico.org.uk/for-the-public.
2. The Bases On Which We Process Information About You
The law requires us to determine which of the recognised legal bases we rely on for each way we use your personal information, and to tell you what that basis is. If a basis we rely on stops being relevant, we will stop processing your data on that basis. If it changes, we will tell you where the law requires us to.
a) Information we process because we have a contractual obligation with you
When you book a class, a workshop, a retreat, or a 1:2:1 session with us, an arrangement is formed between you and us. To carry out that arrangement we must process the information you give us, such as your name, phone number and email address, in order to verify who you are, confirm your booking, and provide the class, workshop or session you have asked for.
b) Information we process with your consent
Where there is no booking or other arrangement between us, such as when you browse our website, message us to ask a question, or sign up to hear about classes and workshops, you give us your consent to process that information. Wherever possible we aim to get your clear consent, for example by asking you to agree to our use of cookies, or by you actively signing up to hear from us. Except where you have consented to a specific use, we do not use your information in a way that identifies you personally; we may look at it in aggregate, for example to see how popular a class or workshop is. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at info@yogaevy.com, though this may limit how we can help you going forward.
c) Information we process because we have a legal obligation
We are subject to the law like everyone else. Sometimes we must process your information to comply with a legal obligation, for example if a public authority such as HMRC or the police properly requests it.
d) Information we process for our legitimate interests, or recognised legitimate interests
We may also process information where it is reasonably necessary for our legitimate business interests, such as keeping a record of who has attended classes for health and safety purposes, or letting you know about a class change. Where we rely on this basis, or on the “recognised legitimate interests” basis introduced by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, we make sure this is balanced fairly against your rights, and we will always tell you when we are relying on it.
3. Special Category Information (Such As Health Details)
Because we teach yoga, you may sometimes choose to tell us about an injury, a health condition, pregnancy, or something similar, for example when booking a 1:2:1 session or asking about a class. This counts as “special category” data under the UK GDPR and we handle it with extra care. We only use it to make sure a class or session is suitable and safe for you, we do not use it for any other purpose, and we do not keep it for longer than needed for that reason.
4. Cookies And Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They let a website remember things about your visit and give you a more useful experience, and they can give the website owner statistics about how the site is used.
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies (which may include pixels or similar tools placed by services we use). When you first visit our site, we ask for your consent through a cookie banner that lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies with equal ease, before anything other than strictly necessary cookies is set. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your cookies in your browser settings or, where we provide one, through our cookie preferences link.
We use cookies to:
- keep our website working properly (strictly necessary)
- remember choices you have made, such as your cookie preferences
- understand, with your consent, how visitors use our website so we can improve it
If you choose not to accept non-essential cookies, our website will still work, though some features may be more limited. If you’d like more detail on how cookie rules work in the UK, the ICO’s guidance is at ico.org.uk.
5. Information Provided On The Understanding It Will Be Shared
If we ever introduce a feature that lets you post information for other people to see, such as a comment or a review, it is up to you to think about who might see it. We reserve the right to keep such information and to use it in the future. Once information enters the public domain, we cannot control what others do with it, and we accept no responsibility for that. If you would like us to remove something you have posted, contact us at info@yogaevy.com and we will consider your request, provided there is no legal reason we need to keep it.
6. Messages, Enquiries And Bookings
When you contact us, whether by phone, WhatsApp, our website, or email, we collect the information you give us so that we can reply and, where relevant, arrange your booking. We keep a record of your message and our reply, along with identifying details such as your name and contact details, so that we can provide a good service and follow up with you if needed.
7. Information Collected Automatically When You Visit Our Website
Like most websites, ours automatically records some technical information when you visit, such as your general geographic location, your internet service provider, your IP address, and details about the device and browser you’re using. We use this in aggregate to understand how our website is used and how we can improve it. If combined with other information we hold about you, this data could potentially identify you personally, even if you have never given us your details directly.
We do not currently use this website for online advertising or re-marketing. If that ever changes, we will update this notice and, where required, ask for your consent first.
8. Information We Obtain From Third Parties
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to run our website and business, such as our website hosting provider, Google Maps to show our location, and WhatsApp to let you message us directly. These providers may process some information as part of providing their service to us. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
9. Where Your Data Is Processed
Our website is hosted in the United Kingdom. Where we use a third-party service based outside the UK, we only do so where the UK has recognised that country as offering a similar standard of data protection (a “data bridge”), or where an appropriate legal safeguard is in place.
10. Your Rights And Access To Your Information
You have the right to ask us: what personal information we hold about you; to correct it if it’s wrong; to delete it; to restrict or object to how we use it; and, where relevant, to receive a copy of it in a portable format. To make a request, email us at info@yogaevy.com. We will confirm when you can expect a response, and let you know if we need to charge a fee, which will only be where the law allows it.
To protect your information, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on any request to access, change or delete your personal data.
11. Children
Our classes, workshops and retreats are aimed at adults. We do not knowingly market to, or collect information from, children. If you are under 18 and would like to get in touch, please do so with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
12. Keeping Your Information Secure
We use appropriate technical measures, such as encrypted connections (SSL/TLS), to protect information sent between you and our website. You can check this is in place by looking for a padlock symbol in your browser’s address bar.
13. How Long We Keep Your Information
We only keep your personal information for as long as we need it: to provide the classes, workshops or sessions you have booked; to meet our legal obligations, including any period required by HMRC for financial records; or to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim. After that, we securely delete or anonymise it.
14. How To Complain To Us
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us in the first instance by emailing info@yogaevy.com with the subject line “Data Protection Complaint”. We will:
- acknowledge your complaint promptly, and normally within 30 days
- look into what happened and respond to you with the outcome
- take any action needed to put things right
We keep a record of complaints we receive so we can handle them properly and learn from them.
15. How To Complain To The Regulator
If you are not satisfied with our response, or you would prefer to raise your concern directly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/concerns.
16. Compliance With The Law
This privacy notice is intended to comply with UK data protection law. We review it from time to time to keep it up to date. If you believe it does not meet the requirements of your jurisdiction, we would like to hear from you, though ultimately it is your choice whether to use our website and services.
17. Changes To This Policy
We may update this privacy notice from time to time. The version that applies is the one published here on the day you use our website, so please check back from time to time. This notice was last updated in August 2026.
